Thanks for seein' about a girl, friend. here's where I'm writing my own history—for you, for me and anyone else who needs to laugh to keep from cryin' every once in awhile.

Day 27.

Day 27.

You know how there are songs that have always hit you slam in the gut/throat/heart? You've heard and sang it for as long as you can remember, and yet there's something about it that you've known even longer?

This song is that song for me. And it's always been a song that, even before I fully listened to and read the lyrics, has always broken my heart.

The first time I completely fell to pieces hearing it I was a counselor at summer camp. It was a fellow counselor's birthday and we all started singing it. It was a jubilant occasion, but right in the thick of swinging for the high part of the "you make me hap-py" note, the ol' throat frog got me. And then I cried that Denzel going to Glory tear.

I looked crazy, right up front singin' all loud and proud and then falling to pieces. I felt even crazier, but then I remembered all the other times people had sung that song and how I always just sort of hummed it. And then I went and looked up the lyrics and really listened to it again (thanks, O Brother Where Art Thou) and my poor li'l soul was like, "Well there it is."
