Thanks for seein' about a girl, friend. here's where I'm writing my own history—for you, for me and anyone else who needs to laugh to keep from cryin' every once in awhile.

Day 21.

Day 21.

Somehow this song always makes the cut on one of my playlists. It's probably my favorite of all Hall & Oates songs, and I have LITE Rock 98.9 to thank for it because there was hardly a day between grades 6-11 that I didn't hear it on Mags's radio on my way to school. But it's complicated, this love.

At first I too just wanted Sara to smile awhile, but then the Alanis phase struck and I wanted her to frown. Forever. Scowl even.

Why don'tcha scowl awhile for me, Sara.

I can't resist that amblin' tempo. There are so many late 60s and 70s songs I love that just have this beat—there's a looseness in them that just sounds like you're taking a walk.

I have also from time to time wondered how annoyed she must be, whoever she is, to have someone plead with her to fix her face. I know I would be so irked if someone made a song about me needing to smile. I would immediately record a clapback cut entitled, "How 'bout You Get Out My Face" or "Harry Hush."

Or maybe just "Boy Bye."

And then I thought, well, they can't help it. They just want her to be happy and free. Well at least that what he says but we all know he ain't no more fidna quit Sara than I'm gonna quit this song so...
